Other things I like right now…
The Life Before Her Eyes. This is a really amazing flick with fantastic performances by Uma Thurman, Evan Rachel Wood, and Eva Amurri. Go. Rent it. Now. *SPOILER ALERT* One of the things I really loved about it was even though I figured out the “twist” within the first ten minutes, the movie still drew me in and kept my attention. Anyone with half a brain will figure out what’s happening early on, due to the film’s title. /SPOILER
Gourmet Girl Mysteries. These books are fun, fast reads, and will be especially appreciated by foodies for their inclusion of restaurant-insider details and the actual recipes so deliciously described in the books. Plus, they very quietly and subversively promote female-empowerment and social work. The heroine has a great “voice” without being overly preachy. In fact, the books very obviously address the inner conflict of a modern woman who doesn’t take to the hippie-hand-holding-woo-woo-new-age approach, yet does care and wants to work for equality and justice. Very cool.
Howard’s Hottie of the Day. Click that link and look at the top of the sidebar on the right. Every single day, Howard has been posting a brand new sexy girl he found somewhere online. I swear I don’t know how he finds them, but I guess there are a lot of hot models out there. (Duh, Tonya.) He ought to be a model scout- he’d be really good at it. Of course, by that token he should also be a sports announcer, and I should direct/produce porno that is capable of actually turning a woman on. Seriously. Where is the nasty talk in porn these days? Guys are visual. I get it, I get it. But they’re also aural, or phone sex wouldn’t exist. So why doesn’t anyone make porno with two people really getting it on and getting off WITH each other, not just in each other’s general direction? See, I could make the hottest porn ever. Just another thing to add to my list. Lol.
Ok, I just re-read the last two paragraphs. And I find myself asking, “is it weird to talk about female empowerment and sexy girls and porn back-to-back like this?” I guess the people who would say yes already think I’m prostituting myself to the patriarchy, so what do I care? I find it insulting to be told I cannot be sexy and empowered at the same time. If I were to believe that, it would take away my freedom of choice to decide for myself how I want to look and act. Pardon my French, but fuck that. It’s interesting that this comes up for me while I’m playing an uber-masculinity-threatening sexy femme dyke. Food for thought…And characterization…Hehehe…
