Restaurant Review: Carlyle
Saturday, March 29th, 2008***Originally posted at PortlandFood.org***
I finally made it to happy hour at Carlyle this past week myself for the first time. Love the space- it’s really sleek and modern without being cold. I ordered:
4 pomegranate-glazed pork ribs
3 oysters
butter lettuce salad
butternut squash arancini
toasted rosemary cocktail
The pork ribs were perfectly cooked and tender without being too fall-apart messy. [...]

Cool Optical Illusions
Saturday, March 22nd, 20081. Are the purple lines straight?
2. What do you see?
3. Focus on the dot in the center and move your head forward and backwards. What do you see?

Restaurant Review: Simpatica (brunch)
Thursday, March 20th, 2008***Originally posted at PortlandFood.org***
Finally made it to Simpatica for brunch this morning. Since I was alone, I just wanted to get in, eat, and get out. Got there at 8:50a and was seated as soon as they opened. I ordered:
banana pancakes w/ bacon
coffee
I like how they actually put coffee and cups out before they open [...]
Restaurant Update: The Belgian Embassy
Wednesday, March 19th, 2008***Originally posted at PortlandFood.org***
An update for those of you who care…
Food has gone pretty far downhill since Kris left and the service hasn’t gotten any smoother either. I can’t tell when they’re going to be open or closed as their business hours seem pretty erratic. Never a good sign. Lots of people come by to [...]
Elizabeth Pisani is My Hero
Sunday, March 16th, 2008Please read this brilliant article by Elizabeth Pisani. I have just discovered her blog, www.WisdomOfWhores.com and find her to be a much-needed rational voice in a world of Puritans and hypocrites.
P.S.
Friday, March 14th, 2008How roasted do we look in this photo? ROFL!
D’yer Maker
Friday, March 14th, 2008I needed that. I mean, I ~really~ needed that vacation. Basically, all I did was eat, sleep, and split my time between the pools and the beach. Which is what you’re supposed to do on vacation, right? The resort, Couples San Souci, was just beautiful. It is set into the side of a cliff and has a [...]

Mmmm…
Sunday, March 2nd, 2008So we found out where we’re staying, and out of the four possibilities, this is the one I wanted…Couples Sans Souci…It’s all-suites, so we’re guaranteed to have a spacious room, plus it apparently has excellent restaurants which of course suits the foodie in me…I’ve been doing a bunch of research too, and so far this is what [...]
