Restaurant Review: Belly Timber
Monday, September 1st, 2008***Originally posted at PortlandFood.org***
H and I had a delightful meal here the other night. I’ve been wanting to try BT for months, but my best nights for eating out now are Sundays and Mondays. Anyways, finally made it in early on Friday and ordered:
house charcuterie plate
small order of pierogis
small order of pan-seared halibut
small order of [...]
Go figure.
Sunday, August 3rd, 2008Wow. It’s never the post you expect. I mean, I write ice-cold flames and sizzling-hot porno that don’t get this much attention…But blog about miniature horses, and the floodgates open. Seriously, I’ve gotten more comments and emails about those tiny ponies than any other topic I’ve written about in at least the past year, from as [...]
I Made Chilean Empanadas!
Saturday, June 7th, 2008I used this recipe. They’re pretty good but not quite what I remember from my time as an exchange student in Chile. Of course, it was 17 years ago, so who knows if I’m remembering correctly. Lol! I think I used the wrong kind of Adobo seasoning, and I like more [...]

Restaurant Review: Sel Gris, pt. 2
Tuesday, April 8th, 2008***Originally posted at PortlandFood.org
I just experienced the most OBSCENELY good meal I’ve eaten in recent memory. Apparently someone tipped the chef off to my sweetbread dilemma, because soon after we sat down, they were presented to us without me even having ordered them. Well how could I refuse? Truly spectacular combination of flavors and [...]
Restaurant Review: Sel Gris

Mmmm. OW, reading your post had me drooling! I had my first Sel Gris dinner Saturday before last- called on a whim that afternoon and due to a cancellation (and me dining solo) was able to grab a spot at the chef’s counter at 7:30pm.
I can’t really add much to the [...]
Restaurant Review: Carlyle
Saturday, March 29th, 2008***Originally posted at PortlandFood.org***
I finally made it to happy hour at Carlyle this past week myself for the first time. Love the space- it’s really sleek and modern without being cold. I ordered:
4 pomegranate-glazed pork ribs
3 oysters
butter lettuce salad
butternut squash arancini
toasted rosemary cocktail
The pork ribs were perfectly cooked and tender without being too fall-apart messy. [...]
Restaurant Review: Simpatica (brunch)
Thursday, March 20th, 2008***Originally posted at PortlandFood.org***
Finally made it to Simpatica for brunch this morning. Since I was alone, I just wanted to get in, eat, and get out. Got there at 8:50a and was seated as soon as they opened. I ordered:
banana pancakes w/ bacon
coffee
I like how they actually put coffee and cups out before they open [...]
Restaurant Update: The Belgian Embassy
Wednesday, March 19th, 2008***Originally posted at PortlandFood.org***
An update for those of you who care…
Food has gone pretty far downhill since Kris left and the service hasn’t gotten any smoother either. I can’t tell when they’re going to be open or closed as their business hours seem pretty erratic. Never a good sign. Lots of people come by to [...]
